Spider Veins
Are those red, blue or purple clusters of veins that appear on thighs, calves, and ankles. These are not to be confused with varicose veins, which are much larger and tend to appear as swollen and wrinkled under the skin. It is estimated that at least half of all women will be bothered by this problem at some point in their lives. Men are also affected by spider veins, but they are normally covered with hair and so tend not to be so much of a cosmetic issue for men.
What causes spider veins?
Spider veins are normally attributed to any of a number of factors such as pregnancy or other hormonal shift, weight gain, prolonged standing or sitting or heredity.
What happens during a Sclerotherapy treatment?
We treat spider veins using sclerotherapy – a series of injections that causes the vein to collapse and fade with time as your body reabsorbs it. On average, it takes one injection to remove an inch of vein.
How long does it take?
That depends on how much area needs to be treated. We try not to do too much per sitting so as not to overwhelm the patient. Several sessions may be required to obtain the desired result. Sclerotherapy may also be combined with laser therapy treatments to minimize the appearance of vein clusters. We will discuss your options during your visit to Gentle Touch Aesthetics.
